Apartment A is stunning for the quality and number of custom-design improvements in every room. The spacious front bedroom includes custom window treatments, a custom shoji screen for the wall-mounted TV, a custom wall-mounted workspace, and a moving wall allowing open-plan living or privacy, as desired. The middle bedroom has a lighted-art ceiling and a custom closet wall. The full bathroom includes a small, "peekaboo" window for vista views from the shower, as well as a glass-block wall for light and custom built-ins. The bath hall and the dining area include several full-wall storage areas, screened by light-weight custom sliders.

There are several large storage spaces near the kitchen. One is off the dining space, covered by wall-mounted sliding Japanese screens, with drawer space and a pull-down coat rack. The others are in the side hall, next to the stairs, with cedar-lined shelving, that can be used a pantry or for long-term storage of clothing or other items. (Link to additional photos.)
The living and dining spaces span the full width of the house and flow out onto the deck through two sliding glass doors. (Link to additional photos.)
The private deck is a generous 180 square feet and provides expansive views of distant hillsides. (Link to full-size photos.)
The front bedroom is another full-width space, with the ability to open it to the rest of the apartment through an oversized hall-width full-height doorway or to close it for privacy, using a beautiful moving-wall screen. The front bedroom also has a wall-mounted TV that can be hidden behind a shoji screen and a wall-mounted workspace, with a desk surface and shelving. (Link to additional photos.)
The middle bedroom is equally beautiful, with distinct art treatments on the walls and a mural-art ceiling. Its window faces out onto distance hills. There are 2 generously-sized closets, covered by sliding Japanese-style wall-mounted screens. (Link to additional photos.)
In the full bath, a small, "peekaboo" window provides vista views from the shower and the glass-block wall fills the room with light. In addition to hallway storage, there are several whimsically designed built-in cabinets above the sink.

The half bath is decorated in the style of a dry sauna, with rough-plank finishs on the walls and ceiling. (Link to full-size photo.)
A second interior stairway leads from the apartment down to the shared garage. The garage includes a shared washer/dryer and shared storage space. The garage width supports side-by-side parking and the generous depth leaves space for easy entry and exit. (Link to additional photos.)
The shared patio and garden can be reached either through the steps from the back of the garage or using the outdoor spiral staircase from the private deck. The patio is shaded by the overhanging deck, providing a cool and peaceful vantage point from which to enjoy the garden. (Link to additional photos.)
The shared garden is a hidden jewel filled with the beauty of rampant wildflowers and the soothing sounds of the central fountain. The garden is designed for year-round flowers, with perennials, bulbs, succulents, and flowering shrubs. It has a collection of 7 mature camellias for winter blooms and 5 varieties of abutilon shrubs that flower most of the year and attract hummingbirds. Other shrubs include wisteria, magnolia, smoke bush, and roses. (Link to additional photos.)
